In 29th november 2007 the regional authorities of Emilia Romagna, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardia and Toscana subscribed a voluntary agreement for the CARTESIO network launch. In march 2009 also Sardegna Region subscribed the agreement.
CARTESIO network is aimed to promote, support and spread a cooperative approach in local governance and in local sustainability patterns.
The network is open to public and private actors engaged in sustainable management and promotion of clusters (industrial, urban, park).
CARTESIO cooperate with Italian Environment Ministry for the promotion of sustainabilty tools in the clusters.
CARTESIO network is interested in international cooperation with actors involved in cluster sustainability activities: experiences exchange, events participation and organisation, partnership in EU projects (i.s. Life, Interreg and CIP programmes).
The network is managed through:
a Steering Committee; composed by Regions representatives. The Steering Committee approves an yearly activity programme and is aimed to plan and direct the network activities.
a Technical Committee; composed by experts. The Technical Committee support the Steering Committee to pursue the network objectives and to implement the yearly programme activities.
Technical Committee is coordinated by Scuola Superiore S'Anna (University o f Pisa) and Ervet (Emilia Romagna Development Agency).
CARTESIO is composed by more then 200 members, from 16 italian regions. They are: public authorities, companies and industry associations, universities and research institues, certification bodies.
